Metro Kochi Vikasana Samathi Organizing a March for Setting Up a Railway Station at Perunni

Kochi: Stating the traffic bottleneck would arise in Vyttila when the proposed mobility hub becomes operational, the metro Kochi Vikasana Samithi (MKVS), an NGO for the development of Kochi, will organise a march to the Parliament on February 25, demanding the railway should allot a medical college and a railway station at Perunni which would be helpful to the commuters. Informing this at a news conference here, MKVS President K K Vamalochanan and General Secretary A A Abdul Rasheed Haji said the Railways had possessed 103 acre of land at Perunni Marshalling yard and the land would be used for constructing a medical college and a suburban railway station. Since the land was owned by the Railways, there was no need of evacuating a single family for the purpose, they added. They said irrespective of political colour, all party MPs from the state had expressed their solidarity for the March and they would participate in it. Besides 25 representatives from MKVS, MPs form the state, including P Rajive, Charls Dias, Jose K Mani, E T Muhammad Basheer, P T Thomas and P C Chacko and the Malayalee organisations at Delhi, would also join in the March, which would be inaugurated by Mr K P Dhanapalan, MP, they said. They also claimed that Union Minister of State Food and Civil supplies Minister Prof K V Thomas would accompany them to submit a memorandum to Union Railway Minister to include a sum of amount for the purpose.
