KOCHI: A sub-committee to coordinate the work on Kochi Metro and the second phase of Vyttila Mobility Hub has been formed by all agencies concerned. The committee will help in resolving disputes between agencies involved in the construction of both the projects.

According to officials of the Vyttila Mobility Hub Society (VMHS), the sub-committee consists of officials from the Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL), Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), VMHS and representatives of contractors of both the hub and the Metro.

As construction of both these projects will take place simultaneously, the sub-committee will also plan strategies for the smooth execution of these projects. Regarding the work on the second phase of mobility hub, VMHS said the design for integrating the Metro with the hub has been finalized. The society has completed pre-qualification procedures required for tendering the second phase.

"The recommendations of the consultant will have to be put before the executive committee for approval. Once that is done, VMHS can call for financial bid. The bidding process is expected to be over by August," said a senior official with the hub. He also said VMHS was involved in negotiations with a consortium of banks regarding repayment terms for loans.

Speaking about ongoing activities, he said sanction has been accorded to carry out test pilling for the Metro on the premises of VMHS. The hub has also held discussions with KMRL regarding the completion of boat jetty which is part of the plan for integrating the public transport system.

VMHS has agreed to finish the work of shelter, ramp for two-wheelers and approach roads to jetty by Onam.

Boats operating through the stretch will have a carrying capacity of 50passengers and 10 two-wheelers.
