Brushing aside reports that the delay in finalizing the design of the flyover would adversely affect the ongoing construction work of Metro, nodal officer of national highway wing of PWD P A Hashim said, "The flyover project will in no way interfere with the ongoing construction activities of the Metro. The design prepared by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will be modified and implemented."
Meanwhile, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), which has already launched construction activities along the fourth reach between Ernakulam south and Pettah, stated that it would not be possible for DMRC to wait till the flyover project takes off. "The flyover design must be drawn in such a way that it will not hinder the construction work of Kochi Metro," said a DMRC official. The official also said that consultations have been held with agencies such as the NHAI, Kochi Metro Rail Corporation (KMRL) and Vyttila Mobility Hub society for fixing the alignment.
On a question regarding the height of pillars and mode of construction at Vyttila Junction, the official said, "Such details will be announced at a later stage. The focus of the Metro authority is to complete the work on the first stage between Aluva and Palarivattom."
Metro officials also cited the example of Chennai Metro rail, built over the clover shaped grade separator at Kathipara Junction, as the possible design at Vyttila Junction. In Chennai, work on the metro began after the construction of the flyover while in Kochi the flyover is likely to follow the Metro.
