February 15 2011 12:28 PM

KOCHI: Though the project had been conceived around a decade ago, it got hooked in the technical and administrative tentacles. When the state government sorted out issues raised by the agriculture department and decided to hand over the land for the project, Beena acted quickly. Convening weekly review meetings, she personally monitored the progress of the work as the chairperson of Vyttila Mobility Hub Society which was constituted for the purpose. The first phase of the project is expected to finish by February. “I am very happy to be instrumental in implementing some of the developmental projects like Vyttila Mobility Hub and more. Among them, I think Vallarpadom International Container Transshipment Terminal project is one that I will remember for long. I could sort out the issues and I am happy to be a part of the project which is a landmark in the history of Kochi,” Beena told After heading the district during a highly volatile period which saw Kochi vying for a slew of development projects, Ernakulam District Collector M Beena will be relieved from the post on February 21. She will be succeeded by Fisheries Director P I Sheik Pareeth. Appointed Ernakulam District Collector in April 2008, Beena was a part of many developmental projects envisaged in the district for the past three years. The credit for setting the Vyttila Mobility Hub project into motion goes to her. Though she was to be relieved of her duties on February 14, she will be holding the post till February 21 as Sheik is unable to take charge before that. However, she will continue to be the chairperson of Vyttila Mobility Hub project.
